Can premature ejaculation be treated without medication?
DLX Men's Health | Worcester, MA
Premature ejaculation (PE) is one of the most common male sexual health concerns and also one of the least talked about. According to the International Society for Sexual Medicine, fewer than 1 in 10 men with PE ever seek medical help or discuss their concerns with their healthcare provider. The stigma is real. What’s also true: this is one of the most treatable conditions in men’s sexual health.
New research presented at the 2026 European Association of Urology Congress just reinforced something we already practice at DLX Men's Health: treating the root cause works better than treating the symptom.
What the New Research Shows
A randomized controlled trial called the CLIMACS study tested whether a structured behavioral therapy program delivered through a smartphone app could help men improve ejaculatory control without any medication.
The results after 12 weeks were significant:
Men using the app nearly doubled their time to ejaculation, from an average of 61 seconds to 125 seconds
22% of users reported they were no longer experiencing PE at all by the end of the study
Improvements were seen in ejaculatory control confidence, sexual performance anxiety, and relationship satisfaction
The control group, who received no intervention, improved by less than one second
The program used techniques that are well-established in clinical practice: mindfulness, arousal-awareness training, cognitive behavioral strategies, and physical control exercises like the start-stop method.
Why This Matters, And What It Means for You
PE has two main drivers: physiological and psychological. Most over-the-counter and prescription options (desensitizing sprays, SSRIs, topical anesthetics) work only on the physical side. They dull sensation or delay response, but they don't address performance anxiety, stress, relationship tension, or the mental loop that often makes PE worse over time.
That's why men often stop using those treatments. The underlying issue hasn't changed.
A root-cause approach that addresses the mind-body connection is what actually produces lasting results. And that's exactly the philosophy behind the Men's Vitality & Performance program at DLX Men's Health.
What We Address at DLX Men's Health
PE rarely exists in isolation. It often shows up alongside:
Low testosterone or suboptimal hormone levels
Elevated cortisol from chronic stress
Metabolic dysfunction affecting circulation and energy
Performance anxiety and psychological burden
ED or other intimacy concerns
For men dealing with ED or reduced sensation alongside performance concerns, I often recommend Apex-RF, a non-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to improve blood flow, tissue tone, and nerve sensitivity in the pelvic region. No surgery, no downtime, and results that build over a series of treatments. It's one of the few technologies of its kind available in Central Massachusetts.
Men usually come in with one complaint. But in my experience, that one symptom usually has 3 causes. And once I build trust with my patients, that’s when I’m able to pull back the lens and get to what’s really going on.
You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone
The CLIMACS researchers noted that one of the biggest barriers to treatment is stigma. Men are not seeking advice or treatment because of shame and that’s exactly the gap DLX Men's Health was built to close.
You can ask the real questions here. Whether it's PE, low energy, declining performance, weight gain, or something you've never said out loud to your healthcare provider, this is the right place.
